A Message From the Sheriff

On November 6, 2012 the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office achieved a milestone never before reached in the history of JohnsonCounty.  On this night, the people of Johnson County, for the very first time, elected Sheriff Charles M. Heiss to a fifth consecutive four year term as Sheriff of Johnson County, Missouri.  Sheriff Heiss first won election to the Office of Sheriff in the November 1996 general election.  While the election of Sheriff Heiss to a fifth term is both a personal and professional accomplishment for the Sheriff, it is also an important accomplishment for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office as an agency, and the men and women who serve alongside him.

The men and women of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office have worked diligently to protect and serve the citizens of Johnson Countyi.  Their commitment and dedication to the service of others has earned them the respect and trust of the community.  Each member of the Sheriff’s Office, as a direct representative of the sheriff, understands that the badge we wear is not simply a reflection of the authority bestowed on them to enforce the laws of the State of Missouri, they understand and hold sacred the public trust and confidence symbolized by the sheriff’s star so prominently displayed on their uniforms and vehicles.  The trust and confidence of the public is something that must never be betrayed or broken.  We live in a civilized society that is policed not by government rule alone, but rather by a desire of the people to be policed.  This inherent desire to live in an orderly society where all citizens are free to live and work in a nation where the rule of law is bestowed on law enforcement officers not by the government, but by the citizens themselves, makes our nation the greatest nation in the world.

Now, as we begin another term together, each member of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office remains focused and committed to making sure our community remains one of peace and order.  We will remain vigilant and focused in our efforts to seek out and apprehend those who refuse to live by the rule of law and will continue to hold ourselves to the highest standards of personal and professional conduct.  We will instill in ourselves and others a true commitment to service above self as we carry out the duties and responsibilities incumbent upon every citizen in the interest of law and order.
