Courts

The mission of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Court Security Division is to provide and maintain appropriate levels of security in the Johnson County Justice Center.  The Justice Center is located at the corner of North Holden and West Market streets in downtown Warrensburg.

Deputies assigned to the Court Security Division are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for all persons visiting or working in the Johnson County Justice Center.  By maintaining a high level of security at the Justice Center, deputies are able to maintain order, preserve the integrity of court proceedings, protect the rights of the individuals appearing before the court, and deter those who would take violent action against the court or it’s Officers. Through these efforts deputies are able to preserve and maintain the high degree of decorum and civility that has become the trademark of the American Judicial system.

In addition to maintaining the safety and security of the Justice Center, deputies in the Court Security Division also provide bailiff services for all residing and visiting judges, conduct secured prisoner escorts, monitor inmates appearing before the court, and coordinate the execution of emergency response and evacuation protocols.  Deputies assigned to the Court Security Division also coordinate with the Jail Division to manage and escort high risk and high profile offenders.

Because the Johnson County Justice Center is a secure facility all visitors entering the Justice Center must pass through a security checkpoint.  Upon entering the Justice center visitors must first remove all personal property from their pockets.  These items will then be placed in a small tray and passed through an x-ray machine for further inspection.  All other personal property such as handbags, briefcases, wallets, and purses will be placed directly onto the conveyor belt of the x-ray machine for examination and may be subject to physical inspections.  To ensure dangerous weapons are not introduced into the Johnson County Justice Center visitors must pass through a magnetometer. Additional security measures may be employed to further ensure the safety of the Johnson County Justice Center.  These measures may include the use of hand held magnetometers, individualized frisk or searches, or the partial or complete closure of the facility.  It is important for the public to understand that all persons and property entering the Johnson County Justice Center are subject to search and seizure.  Prohibited property seized at the security checkpoint will not be returned and will become the property of the Johnson County Missouri Sheriff’s Office.  While such security measures may be an inconvenience to some they are an essential part of our security efforts.
