The DA.R.E. Mission

D.A.R.E.’s primary mission is to provide children with the information and skills they need to live drug and violence free lives.

The mission is to equip kids with the tools that will enable them to avoid negative influences and instead, allow them to focus on their strengths and potential.  And, that’s exactly what D.A.R.E. is designed to do.

Additionally, it establishes positive relationships between students and law enforcement, teachers, parents, and other community leaders.  Every youngster should have the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, secure, and equipped with the skills needed to succeed in life.   Contemporary America, however, is rampant with challenges that could keep children from a positive life path.

The D.A.R.E. program has been an important part of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office since it was first introduced in 1983.  Today D.A.R.E. is taught by Deputy Sheriff Dale Malcom.  Deputy Malcom is a five year veteran of law enforcement and takes great pride in his role as our D.A.R.E. instructor.  Each year Deputy Malcom spends hundreds of hours preparing lesson plans, organizing events, and instructing more than 130 students in five school districts located throughout Johnson County.

Currently D.A.R.E. is taught by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in the Crest Ridge, Leeton, Kingsville, and Chilhowee school districts.  The D.A.R.E program is also taught at the Johnson County Christian Academy located in Centerview, Missouri.

While many school districts across the state and nation have stopped instructing the D.A.R.E. program, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to continuing this valuable curriculum.  The lessons learned by students participating in the D.A.R. E. program are essential in our efforts to equip each and every child with the tools and skills necessary to live a drug and violence free life.
