Domestic Violence Leads To Felony Charges

02/02/2012

Deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Leeton area numerous times between January 17, 2012 and January 27, 2012 regarding reports of domestic violence related incidents.  The suspect, identified as Marcarlos R. Coleman, 34 years old, of Kansas City, MO, and the female victim in this case, had been involved in a dating relationship and they had a 2 year old child in common.  The victim recently moved to Leeton from Kansas City with their child after reporting past incidents of abuse to the Kansas City Police Department.

Over a period of several days, Coleman allegedly sent the victim harassing and threatening text messages.  He allegedly entered the victim’s home unlawfully on at least three occasions and even forced the door open during one of the incidents.  Coleman assaulted the victim, disabled and stole her cell phones, took the keys to her vehicle, and took the child from the victim’s home during one of the incidents.  The investigation of these incidents was forwarded to the Johnson County Domestic Violence Unit.  Coleman was apprehended by deputies on January 27, 2012 as he was entering onto the victim’s property.  Coleman was questioned by an investigator from the Johnson County Domestic Violence Unit.  In addition to the known allegations against Coleman, it was also determined that Coleman peeped through the victim’s window at night on at least one occasion. Coleman also made false allegations that the victim had neglected and/or abused their child.

Coleman was served with an Ex Parte Order of Protection and two Johnson County arrest warrants while in custody at the Johnson County Jail.  Coleman’s charges included Burglary-1st degree, Domestic Assault-3rd degree, Parental Kidnapping, Aggravated Stalking, Stealing, Property Damage, and Trespassing.  Coleman is being held in the Johnson County Jail on $25,000 bond for those charges.
