S.W.A.T.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Warrensburg Police Department have joined together to create a combined Special Weapons and Tactics Team. The team was formed in an effort to enhance the abilities of the Johnson County law enforcement community to quickly and efficiently respond to crisis or high-risk situations. The primary responsibility of S.W.A.T. is the resolution or containment of high-risk and crisis situations that require the unique and specialized skills set possessed by each of our team members. These specialized skill sets are learned in the classroom and practiced repeatedly through rigorous training they have received from an accredited training provider who specializes in training S.W.A.T tactics and procedures.  All members of the S.W.A.T. team continually train as a unit during regularly scheduled training sessions in the classroom as well in a tactical environment.

The duties associated with S.W.A.T. are diverse and extremely dangerous. These duties include such things as executing high risk search warrants, responding to armed and barricaded subjects, hostage negotiations, hostage rescue, riot control, and specialized protection of dignitaries. The unit is able to resolve those situations through intelligence gathering, intense planning and specialized training. As with any law enforcement operation, the primary goal of S.W.A.T. is to preserve the peace and ensure the safety of our citizens. The combined S.W.A.T. unit strives to resolve all crisis situations in a manner that will ensure the safety of our deputies, suspect, and most importantly, the public. This is accomplished by using only the degree of force necessary to resolve each crisis situation they respond to. By employing a wide variety of law enforcement tactics combined with specialized skills and equipment the S.W.A.T team has been very successful in accomplishing the tasks they have been involved in. Since December of 2014, the S.W.A.T. team has been involved in several situations which include Hostage Situation, Felony Arrests and Narcotics violations. All of those situations were successfully resolved without any types of injuries to the team, suspects or the public. The S.W.A.T. team is ready and able to overcome any challenge it meets while serving all of the citizens of Johnson County regardless of where they live.
